Authorized homilies - a forgotten state-confessional project in Modern Era England

The article is dedicated to the consideration of an important phenomenon of the English Reformation - the corpus of Authorized Homilies, also known as the “Second Book of Homilies”. The article offers a historical retrospective and analysis of the key factors in the formation and of the aspects of the functioning of this corpus of texts. The article offeres a characteristic of the socio-religious context of the era, which ensured the emergence of the corps of Authorized Homilies. In this work the author shows that the “Second Book of Homilies” should be considered not only as a religious phenomenon, but also as a part of a large-scale state-confessional project that served the purpose of transforming the collective perception of the new religious doctrine.
