The article discusses the mechanism of gambling by convicts on the territory of correctional institutions. The illegal activity of convicts in organizing and participating in gambling is considered as a negative factor affecting the operational situation. The study used the materials of a survey of current employees of institutions and bodies of the Russian penal enforcement system (UIS).
