The article is devoted to the interpretation of A. S. Pushkin’s novel «Eugene Onegin» on the Russian and European ballet stages. As an example, the choreographers’ productions staged in different time periods are given - J. Cranko’s «Onegin» (1965), B. Ya. Eifman’s «Eugene Onegin» (2009), J. Neumeier’s «Tatiana» (2014). Different approaches to the choice of methods and forms of interpretation of the poet’s work are due to the deep semantic series embedded in his works. The created layering of ideological and semantic lines encourages the interest of choreographers to each of them, sometimes revealing themselves by means of ballet art separately. By choosing one line or another, the choreographers allow us to look at Pushkin’s works from new angles. The article also raises the question of defining the concept of «interpretation» in ballet art and its main principles.
