“The ballad of Kalmyk” by M. Khoninov in the aspect of genre synthesis

In the Kalmyk poetry of the twentieth century, the genre of the poem occupied a leading position in comparison with the peripheral position of the ballad genre. Along with the ballad proper, the Kalmyk poets revealed a synthesis of genres -ballads and poems - in the work of M. Khoninov: “The Ballad of the Battle with the in the aspect of genre synthesis. The relevance is determined by the insufficient knowledge of the object of research. The purpose of the article is to determine the genre nature of the work, to consider the elements of genre formations that influenced the form and content of the “Ballad of the Kalmyk” both in the original and in the Russian translation. Among the ballad features are an exceptional event of a tragic nature, a heroic plot, the death of three main characters, unusual plot collisions (a fingerless baby, the rescue of a small heir, etc.), two worlds (demons), connection with folklore, etc. A large volume (1579 lines) projects the genre of the poem: the essential role of the plot, the hero is not only the subject of the image, but also its object, the accompaniment of closeness to the author of the hero, inserted folklore elements (lullaby, benevolence, legend, fairy tales, proverbs), lyrical digressions, character portrait, etc. The Russian translation of the ballad poem is characterized by a change in the name and, accordingly, the genre (legend), a transformed stanza, an increase in the number of parts, and a reduction in volume (900 lines).
