The article discusses the possibility of improving physical and mechanical properties of heavy concrete for nuclear power plants with colloidal additives in form of sulfur sol obtained in various ways: by thorough mixing original colloidal sulfur in the form of a 2 % solution in water, by oxidationreduction reaction method, and by solvent replacement method. The paper presents results of experiments on stabilizing the sulfur sol additive. It has been proven that the presence of surfactant based on polycarboxylates in solution extends shelf life of additive by 30−50 %. The optimal period of sulfurbased additive use is up to 15 days, the use of which improves physical and mechanical properties of hydrated stone with correct selection of component composition. The paper considers kinetics of heavy concrete hardening using different amounts of sulfur sol. It researched optimization of concrete composition for nuclear power plant structures implementing methods of experiment mathematical planning.
