The bible in the structure of N.S. Leskov's «Singlethought»

The aim of the paper is to determine the Bible’s position in the story by N. S. Leskov «Singlethought», considering both its form and contents. The analysis of the text demonstrates the influence of the Holy Scripture on main hero’s moulding and on society’s attitude towards him. The paper presents also a possible historical context of the discussions about the Bible’s role in the Orthodox Christians’ life that are given in the story.
