«Library volunteering» as an current direction of volunteer activity in the field of culture

The paper substantiates the necessity of forming the library volunteering’ subject field as one of the current areas of activity. The term “library volunteering” is proposed as a generic term. The theoretical and practical aspects of the volunteering in the Library and Information Science field (LIS) reflected in the professional literature are presented. It allowed us to formulate the author’s definition of the “library volunteering”. The specific concepts included in the subject field of the phenomenon are defined: “Library and Information Science institutions”, “library volunteer”, “organizer of library volunteering”, “training library volunteering”, “library volunteer project”, “library volunteer association”. The author's definitions are also formulated for each term. A categorical map of the “library volunteering” subject field has been generated to demonstrate the relationships between the proposed terms. The idea of developing a normative document (standard) regulating the rights and responsibilities of all library volunteering’ subjects is proposed.
