The article is devoted to an innovative approach to conducting lessons - the binary lecture fostering active engagement of cadets of higher educational organizations of Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the thinking process, which increases effectiveness of acquiring the learning material and promotes a cognitive lecture. The article presents the structure of a binary lecture, considers requirements to the teacher’s personality, contains examples of introduction and application of binary lectures in the teaching practice of higher educational institution.
