The struggle between fennoman and svecoman movements as an impulse to the start of research of Fenno-Swedish

The article describes the socio-political movements that emerged in the XIX century in Finland to defend the Finnish and Swedish languages and the results of their ideological confrontation that stimulated the first studies of the Finnish version of Swedish. The ideological struggle between Svecoman and Fennoman movements contributed to the scholarly interest in the Fenno-Swedish, as well as to development of Finnish as a language of culture and literature.
