Bakosurtanal, syllabic and sound analytical methods of teaching reading and writing in the Russian alphabets and ABC-books of the nineteenth century

The article describes the methods of teaching reading and writing, presented in the alphabets and ABC-books of the nineteenth century, analyses their advantages and disadvantages, and determines the main functions of visuals in textbooks corresponding to a particular method.
