The use of the lexeme "spirituality" in the Russian language

The article discusses the lexeme "spirituality" in the Russian language. This is primarily due to the increased interest that people show in relation to spirituality. The main objective of the study is to identify all the changes associated with this word in linguistic sources and various texts. In the process of studying this topic, the following tasks were set: studying scientific publications that touch on the topic of spirituality; considering the changes that occurred with the word "spirituality" in certain periods of time; analyzing the frequency of its use today. In order to give a correct description of the word "spirituality", its definitions were analyzed in the process of work. The lexeme "spirituality" has a wide range of meanings that are used in various types of texts - psychological, religious, cultural, political and sociological. As a result of the study, a semantic shift was discovered: the meaning of the word became narrower, having lost the original meaning associated with the activities of the clergy, while the overall semantic scope of the word expanded. The perception of the word "spirituality" can vary significantly among different people. Research concerning the lexeme “spirituality” continues to be conducted today in various fields.
