It presents the research material about the values of 1st-year students migrated from rural regions and those who live in a city. In the modern world, negative trends in the moral orientations of young people make it currently important to comprehensively analyze the formation of students’ valuable and life-meaning orientations in the conditions of rural and urban society. The society offers various values, there are many of them, but the way to them is individual and a person itself chooses them, so as a student does. The student age is the age of searching for one’s place in life, finding its meaning, and the values regulate the direction of the student’s personality, determine the motives and goals of learning. The objective of the research is to experimentally study the values and life-meaningful orientations of these two groups of students. Two methods were used in the research: ‘Life-meaningful orientations’ (LMO) D. A. Leontyeva and ‘Morphological test of life values’ (MTLV) V. F. Sopova and L. V. Karpushinoy. It was revealed that the general level of life-meaningful orientations in both students’ groups is represented by average and high rates. It was shown that the development of urban students’ personality is directly related to the manifestation and development of spiritual and moral potential, while the students from rural areas tend to pragmatic orientation arising on the background of deep socio-economic crisis in a village.
