Value Orientations and Motivation of Foreign Students Learning Russian as a Foreign Language

Introduction. The goal is to identify and analyze the value-motivational core of foreign learners of Russian as a foreign language being the subjects of communication. Materials and Methods. Questionnaire; pedagogical analysis of personal records and biographies; pedagogically oriented conversation; pedagogical tests (written thematic essay; ranking of values). The study involved foreign students from the national police forces of African countries, who were trained at the Omsk Academy of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs according to additional general education program (day department) in 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years. Results and Discussion. The data of the empirical research are presented. Motivation is considered as the process of mental regulation of a particular activity, namely learning Russian as a foreign language. Motives are characterized, manifested in the form of activity and a collective system of motivation processes. Conclusions. The peculiarities of sociocultural factors of a particular national group of learners of Russian as a foreign language were identified and taken into account in the educational process and in the preparation of teaching materials.
