Value orientations of prisoners sentenced to imprisonment as a sociological problem

The change in socio-economic relations in our country have significantly affected the nature of the value orientations of our citizens. The article analyzes the concept of “value orientations of convicts”, examines its content and establishes various factors that determine the specificity of this phenomenon. In this regard socio-economic factors, which have a predominant influence on the formation of the needs, attitudes, guidelines of convicts during the period of serving their sentence of imprisonment are of great interest. Using the method of an expert survey, the author determined the prisoners’ views on the essential side of value orientations, which made it possible to establish the directions for further modernization of the forms and methods of educational and preventive influence on convicts used in the course of the implementation of penitentiary prevention.
