The incidence of the pulmonary artery branch thromboembolism in Tomsk city hospitals in 2003-2008, based on postmortem examinations

Objective - to examine the frequency and structure of new branches of the pulmonary artery thromboembolism among the deceased in hospitals of Tomsk in the period from 2003 to 2008. Autopsy report and case history of all patients (521 cases) with diagnosed embolism posthumously during life and / or posthumously and who died during the analyzed period were analyzed. In 269 of them (51,63%), thromboembolism was the immediate cause of death, while 252 (48,37%) - worsened the underlying disease. According to the number of deaths from pulmonary embolism I rank belonged to therapeutic profile (60,6%); II - surgical profile (26,9%); III - cancer (9,1%). The main source of pulmonary embolism in addition to the most widespread thrombosis in the inferior vena cava (71,4%) in 21,8% was thrombosis of the right heart cavities. In 44,9% of fatal pulmonary embolism the determining were risk factors (age, physical inactivity, CHF), in 42,9% - errors in diagnosis and in 12,2% - other factors. The features of new cases of pulmonary embolism in Tomsk hospitals in 2003-2008 may become the basis for planning the health authorities of measures to improve diagnosis, treatment and preventive care.
