Human capital of the middle class in Russia

Quality of the human capital of the Russian middle class on the whole is hardly to be called high, still it is much higher than that of other social strata. This brings about shaping of specific models of attitude to human capital among the middle class. Unlike other Russians, all sub-groups of the middle class are characterized by active efforts to increase their human capital. But separate sub-groups have specific priorities in these activities depending on their position in different segments of the labour market. Some of them, which are in high demand, strive to increase their human capital and master new types of activities, others raise their competitiveness on the labour market by improving skills in their present profession, still others master computer. Mechanisms of the class reproduction and conservation of the class inequality in the Russian society are connected in the first line with transmission of human capital. This testifies to reproduction of the class affiliation of those born in highly educated families in all types of cities, on the one hand, and on the other hand - the level of parents' education is not yet strictly determining the future class position of a person in the Russian society.
