Digitalization and the processes of democratization of society: the possibility of choice or the choice of opportunities?

The article attempts to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the influence of the digital environment, platform solutions and algorithms on the socio-political sphere of society. Based on the interpretative analysis, the author assesses the functioning of democracy in the broadest sense, based on the analysis of the results of a sociological study in the leading countries of the world; and reveals dissatisfaction with the work of democratic institutions. The study allows us to state that the digital environment, the impact of foreign media conglomerates can not only influence individual requests and media consumption of social network users, but also shape public attitudes, put pressure on the functioning of political institutions.
