Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants in the Educational Process of Higher Education

Introduction. The aim of the research is to increase the effectiveness of the forms of control carried out in the online educational process at a university. Materials and Methods. The basis for the study, along with the theoretical provisions of general and developmental psychology, social pedagogy, the theory and methodology of professional education, includes the areas of private methods of teaching a foreign language at an educational organization of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. Various research methods were employed in the work: analysis, synthesis, testing, questionnaire survey. Results and Discussion. Having studied the subjects of the educational process with regard to digitalization the authors managed to establish the former’s unequal attitude to traditional and innovative methods of teaching and control in the course of learning academic disciplines at a university, including a foreign language. An analysis of scientists' views on teaching and control methods and consideration of the characteristics of the current generation of university students confirmed the authors' assumption as for priority use of written training and control tasks in distance learning. Taking into account the data of a questionnaire survey of teachers, the authors describe the experience of using written and oral forms of work in a foreign language as part of distant contact (distant) work on a program implemented in an educational organization of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Conclusions. The research performed enabled the authors to make the conclusion that it is quite effective to apply written assignments followed by an online oral interview when working with the current generation of students. Adequate means to control learning outcomes, due to its digitalization, include oral and written answers to a problematic question; writing an abstract, research and argumentative essays. When teaching the subject "Foreign Language" it is advisable to introduce training and evaluation tests in MOODLE in order to control the formation of the students’ communicative competence.
