The paper reviews the issues of changing the content and conditions of work under the influence of digital technologies. Based on the analysis of data from secondary sources, the ambiguous nature of the effects of the information technology revolution is revealed: the emergence of digital inequality, the lack of diversity, the alienation of a person in production from society, impersonal and manipulative communication, and a utilitarian-pragmatic approach to the worker, and others. It is concluded that it is necessary to take into account the humanistic component in the era of digital changes in order to weaken the situation of uncertainty and risk characteristic of society in the period of transformation. It examines how the introduction of digital technologies is changing the composition of the competencies of a modern employee. The attention is drawn to the difficulties of creating a universal model of the qualities and properties of an employee of the digital age. The model of competences, which consists of three “universal” groups, is considered as the preferred one: skills in working with digital technologies; thinking and behavior necessary to achieve success in the digital economy, including so-called “soft” interpersonal and intercultural communication skills and professionally oriented skills. The composition of competencies changes depending on the direction of the organization and its involvement in the digitalization process.
