The activities of metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) during the period of teaching at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy

Using archival and published sources, the article examines the teaching activities of the hieromonk, later Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky), at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy in 1887-1890. The future bishop taught the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament at the highest theological school in the capital. This subject was not a major for Father Anthony, since first he devoted his candidate’s essay, then his master’s thesis to a completely different topic related to psychology. At the same time, Father Anthony enjoyed enormous popularity at the academy as a scientific director. Thus, only in the 1889-1890 academic year, a fifth of the total number of graduates worked under his leadership. The article makes the assumption that such popularity was associated not so much with the scientific successes of Father Anthony, but with his charismatic personality and active work as a preacher and educator of youth for the benefit of the Church of Christ.
