Destruction of organic substances is an essential process in biosphere, providing recycle of biogene elements in the ground and aquatic ecosystems. The organic carbon content has been found in the coastal bottom sediments of five Zabaikalsky soda-saline lakes. Different content of Corg in the structurally different sediments of these lakes and a positive correlation between the number of major groups of bacteria-destructors of organic matter and the rate of destruction of protein and cellulose have been revealed.
