The article analyzes the destructive forms of Eros expression in V. Makanin's prose, the author's reaction to which give raise to ideas about the core of personality from the opposite side. In particular, Eros is considered as violence (the story "Noiseless", the novel "Baize-Covered Table with Decanter"). In the author's identification system, excruciation and necrophilia are represented as "not I", this is emphasized by the replicas in parentheses, dismissed parable narrative and primacy of the narrator's intellect. Identification of the carrier of guilt in "Baize-Covered Table..." comes from the masochistic model. "I" of the intellect aspires to other ones, but does not find support in the society and fills the niche of community with the continuity of existential suffering. The second variant of deviations in writer’s prose is emancipation of sexuality, inverse of sexual initiative manifestation ("The Loss", "Fabula of Average"). Uncontrolled sexuality and rough demonstration of physicality significantly reduce the level of culture and get a negative moral and aesthetic assessment of the author. Among troubles of Eros in the 20th century, V. Makanin's prose also emphasizes the claims of spiritless Eros for significance ("Quasi", "Surrealism of the Proletarian District"). Spiritlessness, instinct, naked physiology are negated by the fabula and the ironic degree of narration. Thus, the catastrophic changes in human nature, according to Makanin, are not led by eroticism as such, not by selfness, not by disbelief, but by violence against the individual, averaging of spiritual needs, lack of love and its substitution for bare physiology.
