Children’s sports is a part of social culture, that is why, on one hand, many processes taking place in a society reveal themselves in child sport, and on the other hand, things present in sport influence social development. One of the key components of the process of training athletes remains the philosophical question of freedom. The way of tackling this question impacts its solution: whether to grant freedom to young athletes during training sessions or to restrict it. The right understanding may impact the result of many years of sport training and the progress of sport in the state. As a result of the analysis of the literature two views on the understanding of freedom have been stated: freedom as the original human property and freedom as the resultant of social relations. When it comes to personality, the two views find their reflection in understanding the nature of freedom restriction through inner and outer limitations. The process of training young athletes depends on the trainer’s view of the notion of freedom. This process may be oriented either towards cultivating personality traits in young athletes that are deemed necessary by society, or towards developing the qualities of a strong individual. The predominance of one direction over the other may ultimately influence the fate of society.
