Diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (review)

The present study is an attempt to review literature on methods of diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. The role of ultrasound, CT, MRI and PET/CT is extensively detailed, reviewed and discussed. Radiation diagnosis plays very important role in the diagnosis and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma. The development of high-tech methods of radiation diagnosis may allow the earlier detection of most fast growing tumors. The ultrasound has a low sensitivity to de tect early stage hepatocellular carcinoma and MSCT and MRI imaging give better results of detection tumor. MSCT/MRI is performed with intravenous contrasting allows to achieve high quality of X-ray diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma; however, it has certain limitations in differential diagnosis. PET/CT should be performed not only in patients with verified cancer, but also in patients for the purpose of differential diagnosis of formations of liver, that can be used in the planning of treatment and prognosis of the disease.
