The article is devoted to the diagnostics of the development of cognitive interest in first graders in optional classes with a natural-science focus. The features of cognitive interest in primary school age, methods for diagnosing its level and the results of pedagogical work on its development are considered. The study is based on the analysis of diagnostic methods and the use of modern game, interactive methods and combined forms of training. The results of experimental work, including ascertaining, formative and control stages, are presented. The conclusions of the study confirm the effectiveness of electives with a natural-science focus in the development of cognitive activity of primary school students.
