Peculiarities of calcium antagonists and beta-blockers influence on structural and functional manifestations of hypertensive encephalopathy using modern neurovisual technologies were studied. Hundred patients having essential hypertension were included in the study. Magnetic resonance study of the brain revealed significantly decreased periventricular edema in the setting of felodipine and verapamil treatment. I t is concluded that felodipine is a drug of first choice in hypertensive patients having marked periventricular edema and low indices of blood flow.
