The article reveals the essence of the concept of extremism, its types and causes of occurrence, in particular, in Russia. A comparative analysis of the dynamics of indicators of the number of registered extremist crimes in Russia over the past few years has been conducted, as well as an analysis of the situation in this area in a particular region of the Russian Federation.
