Discourse manipulation in a broad and narrow sense (based on the material of the Soviet political discourse)

Statement of the problem. The article is devoted to a kind of language manipulation that is discourse manipulation based on the material of the Soviet political discourse. It describes specific features of manipulative discourse, considers discourse manipulation in a broad and narrow sense and characterizes its varieties. The author regards the epithet as a linguistic material possessing a manipulative potential. The main research methodis discourse analysis. The resultof the analysis of the Soviet political discourse examples led to the conclusion that the methods of manipulation are divided into the emotional and intellectual spheres by their impact. Conclusion. The application of the described methods of the Soviet political discourse is not always a manipulation to achieve selfish goals. The goal is rather a desire to illustrate the current state of things, and not to change the views or intentions of the mass audience.
