Dogmatics of the eastern orthodox church by Christos Andrutsos as a textbook of dogmatic theology

The article provides an overview of the first complete textbook of dogmatic theology in modern Greek history, as well as the controversy that this work has caused among Greek theologians. All these materials have not been translated into Russian, and there is almost no Russian-language literature about the authors themselves. The analysis of the views of Christos Andrutsos is carried out in the light of Russian and Greek dogmatic textbooks. It is noted that the author has created a clear, albeit rather short, systematic work reflecting the state of Greek Orthodox theology at the beginning of the 20th century. In his presentation of the material, he made the main emphasis not on a selection of biblical and patristic quotations, but on a consistent presentation of Orthodox doctrine. On the whole, the content of this work is in good agreement with the pre-Revolutionary textbooks of dogmatics created in the Russian and Greek Churches. However, in his textbook, Andrutsos did not outline any prospects for the development of those topics that would be actively discussed during the 20th century in both Orthodox and Western theology. Therefore, while useful for its era, this work has largely lost its relevance, although it continues to be reprinted up through today.
