Augmented and virtual reality in manufacturing: history of development and specifics of application

Over several decades, scientific interest in aspects of digital technology applications in business has significantly increased. Current research shows that Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality have become full-fledged and independent technologies for simulating the real human environment through interaction with virtual objects. Thanks to these technologies, businesses are able to create virtual simulation of production processes. The article analyzes the history of augmented and virtual reality technologies application in industry. Virtual and augmented reality originated more than fifty years ago. The review of the existing studies and peculiarities of application of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality demonstrates the high potential of their use in various industries. The research shows that these digital technologies form a new system of interaction between physical and virtual objects. Initially, the researchers considered these technologies from the point of view of technical solutions - as new ways of projecting virtual objects through 3D models, but over time the focus of their attention has changed to the study of their application features to solve business problems in industry
