The ancient Bulgarian capital of Volga Bulgaria and the Golden Horde: the scientific and creative aspects of the modern revival

The article traces the process of scientific research Bolgar historical and archaeological complex from the 19th century to the present day. Since the 10th century the settlement is formed as the Bulgarian-Turkish city, and then as the capital of the medieval state of Volga Bulgaria. In the mid-thirteenth century the Bulgarians became the capital of the Golden Horde. Subsequently, as a result of continuous wars observed the decline of the city and complete its destruction by mid-Due. Here in 922 Volga Bulgars, the ancestors of the Tatars Islam was officially and voluntarily adopted as a state religion. Bulgarians became one of the first places of the Russian Empire, connected according to the Decree of Peter the great with the problem of conservation and restoration of monuments of history and culture. In our day began a comprehensive scientificcultural study and revival of the Bulgarians in connection with the implementation of a largescale project “Cultural heritage of Tatarstan: the Ancient town of Bolgar and island town of Sviyazhsk”, approved in 2010. Kazan state University of culture and arts is the lead institution for this project taking active part in research and creative activities. In the Russian Federation, Bulgarians and Sviyazhsk are objects that embodies a breakthrough in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, revival of the Muslim and Orthodox spirituality, balance of cultures and faiths in Tatarstan and Russia, tolerance in cultural policy.
