Spiritual meanings of sculpture and painting by F. K. Sushkov. Philosophical and artistic reflection on the fate of Russia

The study of modern creativity is of particular relevance due to the need to comprehend historical, religious, ethical, aesthetic processes inseparable from the present, which is fully applicable to the works of sculpture and painting by F. K. Sushkov, whose highly professional works are philosophical and artistic reflections on the fate of Russia. The tuning fork of their sound is a single and comprehensive religious and philosophical fullness of contents. It reveals his worldview, biographical facts, the essence of images. Studying his works, we turn to the concepts of «hierotopia», «believing mind». A number of little-known paintings by Sushkov in Russia are introduced into scientific circulation for the first time, their stylistic affiliation, the main components of the synthesized artistic language are determined. As a result of the conducted research, we conclude that for all the versatility of the works, Sushkov invariably remains in line with Christian art, according to the understanding of his concepts by modern researchers in the context of the evolution of world culture. This article is so far the only scientific study of Sushkov’s work.
