The article considers the issue of the origin of the title «jazz improvisation » which was given to plastic training by the stage movement teacher Nelly Petrovna Dugar-Zhabon, based on musical and plastic improvisation. The author of the article analyzes one of the sources of training – jazz dance and also the improvisations in jazz music as a model to which the performer of plastic training should strive. The author comes to the conclusion that plastic training, called «jazz improvisation», in the process of developing the technique under the guidance of N.P. Dugar- Zhabon and her follower I.L. Grigurko, forms a separate creative method for developing a plastic figure part and a plastic performance. Thus, «jazz improvisation» goes beyond the goals and objectives of plastic improvisation and becomes a kind of artistic method for creating a part in plastic theater and stage production on the whole.
