The devastating civil war in Syria is arguably one of the major civil conflicts in recent times. The economic effects of the war extend beyond the country’s borders affecting also the neighbouring countries. In particular, international trade traffic is one of the main channels through which the effects of the crisis are transmitted to neighbouring countries. This paper examines the effects of the Syrian war on the Lebanese economy via one of the most important channels through which the economic impact of the war occurs, i.e. the trade channel. This paper surprisingly points out that the Syrian war has so far had a mixed impact on Lebanese trade.

This paper aims to explore opportunities for cultural entrepreneurship to development of local economy. Its tries to define of cultural entrepreneurship in cultural heritage sites in Syria. Entrepreneurial activities in cultural heritage sites require the building of managerial and business capacity and skills in local and regional populations, which are not necessarily educated or informed about business opportunities.

The effect of media system diversity on intercultural communication competence

This article describes the process by which media products are exported from developed countries to developing countries but seldom the other way around. One possible outcome from this unbalanced trend is the difference in media diversity of countries on two ends exporting countries will result in a more homogenized media environment consisting of similar messages from the dominant culture while importing countries will result in a more heterogeneous media environment comprised of messages from various cultural backgrounds. Using cultivation theory and the transportation-imagery model as foundations, this study posits that individuals cultivated in importing countries will be able to become transported into a wider range of narratives, leading to differences in intercultural communication competence due to long-term media exposure.

The effect of writing practice on improving speaking skill among pre-intermediate EFL learners

The productive skills of a language are speaking and writing which share resembling elements. But, there has been rare endeavor to examine the effect of writing practice on the speaking improvement of the learners. This study investigated the effect of writing practice on improving speaking skill among pre-intermediate english foreign language learners. Afterwards, the respondents of the experimental group received the treatment which was learning speaking skill through writing practice. The control group was deprived of the treatment and they were taught in the classroom using traditional methods of teaching. The findings revealed that the experimental group significantly outperformed the control group on the post-test.
