The article investigates the philosophical analysis of the phenomenon of social punishment, namely its natural prerequisites. Based on N.D. Subbotina's concept of the relationship between the natural and social in society and a man, the author highlights the external natural and internal natural prerequisites for social punishment. Natural and geographical conditions to a certain extent affect the manifestation of punishment and they are related to external natural prerequisites. Aggression of a person, tendency to violence, fear of punishment and desire for revenge are considered as internal natural prerequisites for punishment. It is concluded that the internal natural prerequisites of punishment have both direct and indirect influence on each other, and they are in the process of constant interaction, forming a complex system. At the same time, they cannot be considered in isolation from natural environment, that is, the external natural prerequisites of punishment affect their content, especially at the early stages of human history
