The researches have been carried out in the mountainous areas of the Central Ecological Zone on the Baikal Natural Territory in the Bolshaya Sukhaya River Basin on the northern slope of the Sea ridge, where the patterns of soil cover distribution have been established. The leading factor determining the originality of nature is the climatic one, which features, in turn, are related to the construction of the surface of the Sea ridge. In the highland zone subdrills and podzols prevail, humus and dark-humus soils - in a subalpine zone. The dominant soils of the taiga-forest zone are cespitose subdrills, burozems, lithozems and dark-humus soils. As a result of the performed geographic and cartographic works, the map of a soil cover of a scale of 1: 100,000 using GIS technologies has been created for the first time.
