The paper explores the issue of identifying unephigraphic small silvercoins of the Apollo head/rose type which became widespread on the Taman' Peninsula. These coins imitate a famous Rhodian type of coins and are, supposedly, attributedto the Phanagorian coinage of the mid-2nd century BC. The authors publish the coins foundduring the excavations in Phanagoria and Vinogradnyy 7, which is a settlement locatedon its chora. The analysis of the historical context, close political and economic linksof the Asian Bosporan Kingdom and its capital with Rhodes clarifies the reasons whyPhanagoria minted a series of small silver coins (tetrobols and diobols) with a Rhodiantype, i. e. a rose, around 120-110 BC.
