The conceptualized spheres of feminine and masculine in the Old German culture by the means of the analysis of language, mythology and literature are studied. The connections of the gender roles with the spatial (top/down), social (fighter/sybil) and symbolic (sword/ spindle) markers are revealed. The influence of the Christian religion on the transformation of the archaic ideas is shown. The methods of philological, etymological and semiotical analysis are used.
