Phenomenon of disease in patristic legacy: main types of interpretation

This study is aimed to consider conceptions of disease phenomenon conveyed in Christian patristic writings. The article seeks to analyze writings of authoritative Church fathers. Then, resting on hermeneutic procedures, an attempt is made to typologize the ground reflections on such anthropological attribute as disease. Explored are the following problematic questions: hamartiological grounds for disease, alternative etiology of diseases, naturalness and unnaturalness of diseases, disease as evil and good, soteriological dimension of disease. The research correlates the theses of patristic heritage with contemporary views on the phenomenon of disease - scientific, religious and commonsense knowledge. The author takes consequence of spiritual and ethical value of patristic disease consequences, due to which this multidimensional concept receives a relevant content of meaning.
