The phenomenon of identity: the ways of description and social and cultural foundations

The article reveals the influence of social and cultural factors on the process of identity development and the ways of its description by means of such concepts as «identity» and «distinction». The author analyses the main philosophical approaches to the understanding of identity, showing that its comprehension through the category of identity is closely connected with the modern society globalization and transformation processes.
