The article comprehends the foundations of aesthetic experience based on the works of Russian and foreign philosophers - V. V. Bychkov, M. Dufren, M. Merleau-Ponty, L. Landgrebe. Attention is paid to non-verbal and sensory experience, non-utilitarian intuitive relationships of the subject with the surrounding reality. It is argued that the perception of a work of art can and should contain the entire completeness of the phenomena of consciousness: from the concrete-sensory stage, emotional experience to the spiritual awareness of all integrity, manifested in an aesthetic object. Elements of phenomenological analysis served as methodological coordinates for studying the aesthetic experience of students. It is shown that phenomenological reduction acts as an essential moment of aesthetic experience when students study works of art and phenomena of modern culture. In this regard, the process of understanding their own aesthetic experience by first-year students of the Institute of Arts and Art Education of the Vladimir State University named after Alexander and Nikolay Stoletovykh in the context of teaching the basics of cultural and educational activities has been analyzed.
