The article is devoted to the problem of choosing the life strategies by the artistic intelligentsia during the February revolution. In February-March 1917, two strategies dominated: survival and successful external adaptation, which have become closer. Successful external adaptation has become one of the forms of survival, and survival was one of the conditions of external adaptation. In both strategies, we can distinguish the stage of observation which was necessary for orientation in the new system, understanding the external attributes of the revolution. For the survival and successful external adaptation, recognition of the revolution had a great importance. Most of the artistic intelligentsia welcomed the February Revolution. Both strategies assumed the stage of "service (social work)". The difference was that in the strategy of survival, the cause of "service" was the search for livelihoods, and in the strategy of successful external adaptation - the need for social work. Many representatives of the artistic intelligentsia, under the influence of revolutionary events, took an active life position, which was expressed in the organization of the preservation of cultural monuments.
