Phygital training of law students in reading professionally oriented foreign language texts

The author shares his experience of digital training of law students to read professionally oriented foreign language texts. Phygital learning is a new phenomenon in the field of education, which has a number of features. The term “phygital” implies the combination of two realities - physical and digital - when learning to read professionally oriented foreign language texts. Phygital training is based on a contextual axiological approach, which allows one to combine universal human values with professional ones in the process of developing the personality of a future specialist. The effectiveness of students’ work with dictionaries and texts on paper and with online translators and digital texts is analyzed. The “skimming reading” and “scanning reading” technologies when teaching to read professionally oriented foreign language texts require different reading strategies, which should be taught to law students. The author used empirical research methods such as testing, surveys, questionnaires, observation, evaluation, monitoring, which made it possible to adjust the process of digital learning to read professionally oriented texts. Studying modern research and based on his own practical experience, the author believes that students perceive paper texts better than digital ones. The disadvantage of digital texts compared to paper ones is that working with them requires the student to have access to the Internet, have some kind of electronic device (computer, laptop, etc.), an appropriate installed program and the ability to use it. It is concluded that understanding the features of digital training of law students in reading professionally oriented foreign language texts allows one to competently combine physical and virtual/digital reality in this process. The author believes that phygital training of law students to read professionally oriented foreign language texts is a modern and effective method of teaching a foreign language.
