The purpose of the study is to consider the significance of the phenomenological interpretation of Aristotle undertaken by early Heidegger in order to establish his own approach to understanding the essence of language. The focus of research interest is the Heidegger's destruction of the signification model that was erected by the philosophical tradition on the basis of the treatise “On Interpretation”. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that already in the interpretation of the Aristotelian concept of the symbol there is a leading establishment of the philosophy of Heidegger's language to bridge the gap between thing, language and thought. Heidegger's reading assumes the mediality and transcendence of the symbol as opposed to its traditional reduction to the available sign as a conventionally established means of signification and expression of subjective experiences. The author concludes that the origins of the late Heidegger's interpretation of the essence of the word as “lumen of being” can be found in the early phenomenological interpretation of the symbol as transcendence.
