The article examines the place and role of language and text concepts in contemporary humanitarian knowledge (through the formation of new views on the functioning of culture). The research is dedicated to the phenomenon of language, being a multidimensional and complex object, and the way it acts as the subject of research for a wide range of humanities. The article deals with the philosophy of language, and includes the history of the study of linguistic phenomena, starting from antiquity. Historical and philosophical research of implicit and explicit stages of the development of philosophical views on the language was not a part of this study, nevertheless the author attempts to reveal two fundamental stages in the development of philosophy. Considerable attention has been paid to the formation of linguistics (and its eventual self-realization as a science) and the importance it had for the development of contemporary philosophy of language. The author goes along with the process, as today the idea of philosophy of language and text is absolutely well-founded as a discipline considering the relationship of the language and the world. Achievement of the set goal requires thoughtful and consistent analysis and consideration of the position of a particular philosophical doctrine of language and text (in contemporary humanitarian knowledge), and hermeneutic comprehension of the contents of this doctrine. It is necessary to reveal the key philosophical concepts to language and text that appeared in the latter half of the 20th century. The abovementioned observations determine the structure of this work.
