The article examines the philosophy of culture of Grigori Landau, a Russian emigrant philosopher, in the context of Oswald Spengler’s ideas that he expressed in his famous work «The Decline of the West». The author focuses on Landau’s «ground-breaking» book «The Twilight of Europe», which interwinds theoretical constructs of socio-political, cultural, and philosophical nature. The author believes that, despite the fact that both works belong to the same era, the intentions of the authors turn out to be divergent. In this regard, it is interesting to highlight his concept of «ideological maximalism», with the help of which Landau shows the danger of absolutizing any philosophical principle and putting it into practice. According to Landau, it is «ideological maximalism» that «deepens the twilight» over European culture.
