On May 18, 1896, tragic events occurred on the outskirts of Moscow, briefly described in a government message: "Today a crowd of several hundred thousand moved so quickly to the place where refreshments were distributed on the Khodynskoye field that with their spontaneous force they crushed many people. Soon order was restored, but, unfortunately, the first onslaught of the crowd resulted in many casualties." Since then, debates have continued among historians about the causes and scale of the horrific misfortune, and about the main culprits of the drama. But in particular, many social scientists are interested in the question of the strangeness of the reaction of the crowned Romanov couple to this unprecedented bloody massacre.
