Focal brachytherapy of prostate cancer: modern trends in development of the technigue

A high incidence of complications of radical surgical interventions reduces the quality of life of patients with prostate cancer. For counteraction, different options of radiation therapy are developed. Among these options, the most perspective is internal radiation therapy or brachytherapy. According to the literature, about 40% of patients with prostate cancer today are getting excessive treatment. To some extent this applies not only to radical surgery, but to the less aggressive radiotherapy as well. Given these conditions, further development of conservative methods of treatment, particularly, focal therapy is required.
