Seminar "Contemporary British Literature in the Educational Process of Russian Universities", the Oxford-Russia Foundation and its President Anthony Smith, Perm State University and Boris Proskurnin, personally Karen Hewitt, who is the inspirer and coordinator of the program for introducing modern British works into the educational process of Russian universities. writers have undoubtedly influenced the improvement of the study of British literature in our university. As a result, books by contemporary British writers appeared in many universities, which made it possible to study the specifics of the topics and problems of contemporary works and the peculiarities of the modern English language. The article presents the experience of working on the work of N. Hornby "All about the boy" with second-year students of the linguistic institute, analyzes the features of the subject matter of the work and the specificity of the author's language, which is the modern spoken language of the inhabitants of London.

Студентам, которые изучают английский как основной предмет, абсолютно необходимо читать и анализировать современную английскую литературу в языковых классах. Важно начать очень внимательно читать первые главы книги, чтобы студенты могли приспособиться к языку, стилю и манере повествования. Это особенно верно, когда нужно читать и исследовать сложную книгу, такую ​​как роман Дж. Коу «What a Carve Up!». Затем студенты работали над главами, посвященными различным персонажам семьи Виншоу, которые изображены на ярком социальном фоне. С самого первого обсуждения в классе стало ясно, что рассказ удалось заинтересовать студентов и что лингвистический и литературный анализ оказались полезными для их лучшего понимания книги. Они очень внимательно относились к множеству деталей, подбирая ключи к разгадке загадок романа. Они оценили разнообразие стилей, предложенных в книге, ее замысловатый сюжет и разнообразную лексику, от журналистского жаргона до политических клише. В ходе обмена идеями (а иногда и очень жарких дискуссий) я обычно избегал принимать чью-то сторону, если только не видел, что не был замечен какой-то важный вопрос.
