Literary translation. Рубрика в журнале - Тропа. Современная британская литература в российских вузах
Статья научная
Adam Thorpe is the author of Ulverton, one of the novels in the ORF project. He has also just published a translation of Gustave Flaubert's Madame Bovary. Although he is concerned specifically with the problems of translating Flaubert's French prose into English, his thoughts on the responsibilities of the literary translator should be of interest to all our readers. Translation of poetry as a means of teaching interlinguistic and intercultural penetration
Статья научная
The article dwells upon the issue of poetry translation as a means of cross-cultural penetration both on linguistic and extralinguistic levels. The article presents a variant of an 'universal' plan of translation analysis of a poem, illustrated by the poem 'January 1, 1941' by Yaroslav Smelyakov. The author also offers bits of the poem's translation into English proceeding from the analysis performed.
